Dear Little One

Dear little one,

It’s all so simple

and it looks real nice

The color of the grass

and the color of the sky

You’re learning to love

to breathe in the air

You’re finding the joy

in anything bare

You’re world isn’t filled

with nonsensical frill

Work and school

Death that kills

Your innocence is

the beauty of the world

Your eyes shine

Your laughter cures

As you grow,

they’ll tell you lies

They’ll try to trick

you with their smiles

Don’t be fooled

by all the frill

It fades and passes

It dies, it kills

Oh, little one,

never forget:

The grass is green

The water wet

And as you grow

you just get old

But the frills will pass,

not the stories told.

Sincerely,

An aged soul
