Dear Love,
Dear Love,
I’ve heard your name whispered my whole life
sung on the big screens
drilled into me ever since I’ve been old enough to dream
I’ve looked for you in every passing car
strangers faces
yet, I haven’t seen you
not even in a glance
I have to apologize, because I’ve used
your name in vain more times than
I know how to count
I have to apologize because
I’m scared
I’ve lost my way
I’ve never known the way
into my own locked heart
you would think it would be open
my smile is a locked
window
and I can’t find the key
I’ve looked and looked too.
In her blue eyes,
I swam halfway down until I realized
I’d forgotten to hold my breath
you weren’t hiding in her eyes
nor in the search for the perfect words
to text
him.
Love, you were never meant to be sought after
if I vow to stop searching,
will you promise your way into my arms?
Forgive me,
-O
