Dear mama
Dear mom,
When you got sick I got mad
Mad that life got so complicated for us all
Mad that I was no longer able to act my age and go out with my friends
But most importantly, mad that this had to happen to you
I get mad when I see women your age out enjoying life
Mad that out of everyone, this had to happen to you
Mad that you're suffering and I can't do anything to make it better
Mad that I can't communicate with you
Mad that you're immobile, knowing how much you loved to go out
Mad that you will not be able to see my graduate
Mad that I will no longer be able to fulfill my dreams of buying you a house and sending you to your dream vacation
I saved a voicemail you sent me a few years back telling me it was late and I needed to come home
Back then when I listened to it, I got mad and rolled my eyes
Today that I listened to it, the sound of your voice put a smile on my face
Life threw many blows at you and each time you'd face them with a smile
I never knew your smile would mean so much to me
Keep smiling momma!
