Dear The Man in the Garden
Dear the man
That sits in the dirt
You'd think at your age
That it would hurt
Dear that one
That cares for his flowers
And when told its time to go in
Just looks up and glowers
How are you so content
Weeding and grooming
In the raised flower bed
Where your Zinnias are blooming
Look at the mower go
How it still runs
For you take good care
Of the things that you love
In the shed are some supplies
That show your dedication
For you never stop tending
Even in frustration
And look in the garage
Where the car doesn’t belong
For your tools are more organized
Than you are headstrong
You seem ready to go
To help those with no time
For your garden is not
The only thing on your mind
But who are you
And what is your name
I’m sure life would be grander
If we played your game
For it seems that you
are living life right
And the light that you shine
Is vibrant and bright
It shines on all people
They know that you care
Because there is no one on earth
That has not felt your love there
Your name is David
You're related me
And that by itself
Makes me happy as can be
I have smiled with you
And I have worked in your garden
I’ve watched and I’ve listened
And it’s life you have starred in
The people in your town
Shall not forget your passion
What you gave the people there
Would fill the largest mansion
You've shown me that love
Shall never be forgotten
For it is not something
That can go rotten
Thank the lord I had a grandpa
That was made just like you
Who showed me way
And that life was grand too
Though you left quickly
And left with a pardon
I’ll remember you always
Sincerely, the girl in your garden
