Dear, Mind

It hasn’t always been easy

Seeing the real me

Struggling to understand exactly what you see

I learned that it’s what’s on the inside that matters

It should never be about “his or hers”

But how much you care for you and yours

You taught me to protect my future, mind, and soul

And to cherish those around me, to have and to hold

Yes, there were times you left me in the cold

And yes, there were times I thought I would hate you until I grew old

But, I learned to love you, appreciate you, and admire you

I never thought that to you I’d stay true

Yet here I am, listening to you everyday

Choosing you above every other voice that would cause me to sway

So, dear fear, dear mind

Thank you, for never leaving my side

And thank you for putting me through the bad, to see the good

For humbling me and destroying my pride

So that when I felt like I couldn’t I would prove to myself that I could

It hasn’t been an easy road

It sure hasn’t been a light load

But here I am, still standing,

With you by my side

My protector, and my guide
