Dear MJ
Dear MJ,
As a star of your magnitude who's there to help you when life has its ups and downs? Your mistakes are magnified in their eyes. You are ridiculed and betrayed by those who once loved you or even worse by people who never knew you. Hard work and tireless dedication to not only entertain but to be the very best at your craft. Where is the respect ? As you give up a normal life for a life of vast entertainment there was no such thing as privacy and your profession gave people the right to be highly critical . You were constantly criticized no matter how many miles away from home you are no matter if you are living out of a suit case for months no matter how many times a year you can see your family it wasn't enough to keep people focused on your God given talents , your innocent heart and your ultimate passion to entertain and be the very best you could be. You are an inspiration. I ask sometimes did your passion suddenly become a life sentence ? Maybe you aren't the average artist who would demand respect in their music you simply let your hard work and effort shine thru like the spotlight on stage when you moonwalked thru our hearts cause I know you did for me . And maybe it was your mystique that led to so much backlash . Your meek and private spirit could never coexist with your galaxy like stardom . Did who you were as a person ever really match up to your God given talents ? Because to dance and sing and perform with such energy , passion and confidence but yet have such an introverted personality it's a rarity in anything or anyone with your level of mega success and stardom . Philanthropist in every sense of the word. "We are the world" raised $63 million for humanitarian aid in the U.S. and Africa . Changed music videos to mini movies with a mammoth array of imagery , electric plots and scenes . Inspired by the late and great performer James Brown and owned your singing techniques from Diana Ross . Your humanitarian themes poured out constantly in your iconic work over a lengthy and successful career. How could they ever paint a picture of you so ugly ? "Man in the mirror" is a thought process I try to address in myself daily to self confess and give a resolution. Social ills worried you more then your own daily struggles and worries . And you'd get fed up and lash out in songs like "Leave Me Alone" and " They Don't Really Care About Us" when it seemed like the world didn't really care about you . We had you and you had us too. Glued to the tube on a Saturday afternoon I was shocked to see one man captivate millions. Tears of joy from fans across the globe and behind him was a trailing abundance of creativity only God could bless you with. You held nothing you gave all you had been given . I was a young kid enchanted by your mystique, your passion , your perpetual motion and your uncanny knack for leaving me on the edge of my seat. Till this day watching your videos makes me happy. All you asked was
"In My Deepest Despair
Will You Still Care?
Will You Be There?
In My Trials
And My Tribulations
Through Our Doubts
And Frustrations
In My Violence
In My Turbulence
Through My Fear
And My Confessions
In My Anguish And My Pain
Through My Joy And My Sorrow
In The Promise Of Another Tomorrow"
And as our shooting star faded thru our finger tips like a summer breeze . We forgot that our larger than life star was merely human . And when we sit and finally confess our confusion we truly understand that you were a gift to us .
