dear mom,

months and months spent waiting,

today is finally here.

my mother told me, “take the wheel,

now it is your turn to steer.”

the road is still untraveled,

goodbyes are to be said,

but time is passing quickly,

these moments flying over my head.

my mind races as i lie here

contemplating the day ahead,

but my alarm clock is already ringing.

the time has come to get out of bed.

we packed the car last night-

not just things, but my life too.

there is much to be said

for a mother as supportive as you.

i get behind the wheel

ready to part at last,

driving towards my future,

but thinking about my past.

i’ll find my place there,

but you are always my home.

i hope one day to be as good of a mother

as my own.
