Dear Mom

Dear Mom,

Why do you scrutinize your body? Why aren’t you proud of it? That body birthed three girls that you call beautiful everyday. I scrutinize me too. I realized lately it’s the same things you scrutinize about yourself. I don’t mean to but I see you unhappy with your body and I think there is something wrong with me too. I tell you, you look beautiful and you put on baggy clothes to try to cover up your insecurity. I feel myself falling down the same trap and I don’t want to. I want to be happy with what I look like but you’re a subconscious reminder that I won’t be. I want my kids to not fall in the same rabbit hole. I want my children to be proud of the bodies they will live in. I want to be proud of the body I live in.
