Dear Mom
Dear Mom,
I’m writing because no one gets me like you do. I’m writing because I love you and I don’t tell you enough. I’m writing because I miss you everyday and the little things you did that I always took for granted. I’m writing because life is too short and things need to be said. I’m writing to tell you I love you and appreciate you immensely.
You are the my built-in unconditional best friend, cheerleader, chef, maid, driver and therapist all wrapped into one. I don’t know what I did in a past life to deserve you but it must have been fantastic. You always have confidence in me even when I don’t and I can always count on you for that. You’ve given countless pep talks and convinced me that world wouldn’t end if everything didn’t go perfectly.
You are always there for me no matter what time, no matter where. You stayed up late to make sure I got home before you went to sleep. You saved a plate for me when I was working late. Except one of the best things you ever told me was when I was going on a school trip to Europe and you said “If something goes wrong and the plane doesn't make it to the right airport or you forget something don’t bother calling me expecting me to fix it because I can’t. I’m millions of miles away in a different time zone and you can figure it out for yourself”. You laughed because all the other moms were so worried and stressing over international phone plans and facetiming. You trusted that I had the skills to get myself into another country and come back. That I could do anything. Other mothers looked into chaperoning and talking to the guide and exchanging numbers but you weren’t. This mattered so much to me.
It pretty much sums up our relationship. I trust you to always be there for me and you trust me not to need you to be. Now as I’m older I want you to know that I will always be there for you. No matter where I live or how busy I am, no matter what time it is or what country I’m in. You can’t hesitate to phone me or show up at my house ever. You’ve been my one stop magic fixer and I want to be yours.
I love you to the moon and back,
Me
