Dear Mommy, I'm not you
Dear Mommy,
" Would you just listen to me? It's what best for you!"
"You're not gonna like what I have to say, but you need it."
"Trust me, you need to hear me out!"
These are the words I've heard all my life.
I bet you think you know what's best for me, but Mommy I'm not you.
I'm not the little girl you raised me to be.
I'm not the helpless girl who needs to be supported.
No, I got that part taken care of on my own.
I didn't learn much from you before you left with him,
just that I don't want to be like you.
Mommy, I don't want to be the woman who needs a man to support her,
the woman who is too desperate for a man's touch that she leaves her child alone at night before they're even in kindergarden,
the wonan who isn't capeable of having compassion.
I dont want to be you.
I wont be like you!
I will be me, and only me.
I AM me.
I realized that recently Mommy, that I don't want to be like you,
I realized that I have a choice.
I will be strong,
I will support myself,
I will fall in love and have children and care like them as if their lives are more important than my own.
I will be me,
I will live for myself.
I will be a better person that you were ever capeable of being Mommy,
just watch me.
I'll prove them wrong,
I'll show them I'm more than just another prison baby,
I'll show them I'm more than just where I came from.
I will always love you Mommy, but I will never be like you.
Sincerly, your Baby Girl
