Dear Mother Nature
Dear Mother Nature,
I’m sorry. I’m sorry people have been so mean.
I’m sorry the air is now gray and the trees no longer green.
I’m trying. I’m fighting. But nothing has worked.
When I tried to complain, the businesses all smirked.
My voice isn’t loud enough to be heard over the “ka-ching!”
Of their bank accounts when they have the Next Big Thing.
I’m only one person, and I’m trying my best,
But my voice isn’t loud enough compared to the rest.
Oil is drilled for, trees are cut down, and the air is polluted.
This whole business process is quite convoluted.
I’m going to keep fighting. I’m not giving up yet.
I’ll open their eyes, and show them the threat,
Of the things they are doing, and what’ll come to pass.
If they don’t pull their heads out of their...glass
Buildings and offices, and fancy black suits
I’ll drag them outside and make them wear boots.
And I’ll show them the Earth, and what it can do,
And Mother Nature, it’s all because I love you.
I’m sorry,
Elizabeth
