Dear Mr. Hagy
Dear Mr. Hagy,
Or should I say "Oh captain, my captain"
What gift you have given me
The power of words
You have taught me that everyone has a story
And only they can tell it
You have shown me the magic in words
And how everyone has the potential to use it
You told me that the best lies are the true ones
And that we should always write our truth
You have allowed me to learn that there is a difference in something being good and something being damn good
And that there is no mistaking the two
You have proven to me that things are never black and white
And that they are all colors of the visible light spectrum
You have embedded in my mind that good writing shouldn't just make you warm and fuzzy inside
And that it should sting and clamour and make you feel everything you don't want to but need to
And most importantly
You have taught me that our words have the power to move mountains
If only we have the courage to write them
Thanks for giving me the courage,
Aysha
