Dear My Casual Existential Crisis™
Dear My Casual Existential Crisis™,
I see you.
I hear you.
I really do.
But can we please not today?
I’d love to question
The existence of free will with you,
Or whether I am truly experiencing reality.
But I do need to finish this calculus homework at some point.
Shouldn’t we do that first?
Your infinite thoughts
On the idea that we will all someday
Be inevitably be forgotten are fascinating, truly.
But the other person in the room is telling us about their weekend.
Let’s listen to them, yes?
I understand that you have feelings
About the infinite nature of the universe,
And our unfathomably small role in it.
But I’m hungry and trying to eat my breakfast in peace.
Is there a more appropriate time we can do this?
I see what you mean.
I hear what you’re saying.
I value the complexities you bring to the table.
But I’d really like to not right now.
Sincerely,
The human who is exhausted from all these Existential Crises™
