Dear My Old Friend

Dear my old friend, How long has it been since i’ve seen your smile It must have been quite a while As the only possession you left has become littered with dust And the metal even has flakes of rust I still hold it dear, but it pains me so As its still is hard to let the memory go The memory that will stand the test of time And will remain embedded within my mind The last time I saw you brown eyes glow The look I have when I see the first flake of snow However yours lasted years Even through my salty tears They looked past grief and only saw joy And maybe even a squeaky toy I never realized how much I loved thee Until I felt the hole in me The regret of not loving you enough Feeling as if I could have been less rough As you were more than just a friend You were my family until the end And while I write this as a final goodbye I promise you I will not cry Cause I take comfort that when I pass away I will find you again that day And when I do I won’t let you go Because you are as precious as the first snow.
