Dear My Pride and Joy

Dear Maxine,

Life seems so unfair right now doesn't it?

Just last week you got a phone call saying your father had a seizure and was in the hospital.

Then you found out Aunt Mary had passed due to Lupus.

Then it was one of your daughters almost got kidnapped because no one was watching her.

When does it end for you?

It doesn't.

Just yesterday you were told that you had been put on academic probation

All because you had failed to maintain a 3.0 GPA.

And that if that GPA is not raised by the end of this semester, you can no longer be a nursing major.

No longer be a nursing major?

What!?

Your whole life has been building up to this moment.

Everything that you have ever done was for this moment right here,

And your put on academic probation?

Of course, there are other things you could do.

There's always education! You love music don't you?

Or how about Criminal Justice? Have you never thought of that?

Don't you love those Forensic File shows? and First 48 and stuff?

But I get it, trust me.

Because ever since you were nine this is what you have wanted to become.

A nurse.

To help people the best way you can.

Be someone your mother and father could be proud of.

Someone that could take care of herself and not need to depend on anyone else in this world.

This is all you have ever talked about.

This was your primary dream. Your biggest dream.

And yesterday was the first day ever that someone broke the news to you

That you couldn't be all you had ever wanted to be.

But instead of that giving you the courage to do what you have to do

It gives you the feeling we should just stop

Maybe this life wasn't meant for me

I would like to quote some things for you.

From my favortie song Journey from that Anastasia movie

"People always say life is full of choices no one ever mentions fear"

Which means, no one may have ever warned you about what to expect but that doesn't that you cannot do it

Or that you cannot amount to something greater Maxine.

It feels like no one is listening

Like no one is caring.

No one is understanding because no one knows how it feels to be told

You'll never amount to your dreams at the rate you are heading.

That is not what you want to hear.

Because you want someone to say

I'll help you

I'll be there for you

I'm proud of you

I'm listening

I understand

I never once, not even for a second doubted you. I always believed in your dream

Well no one is saying it

So you have to say it to yourself.

But I think the biggest question right now is

How do you feel?

Not about school

Or your friends

Your mother

The girls

You.

What about you Maxine?
