Dear Old Friend

Fear

A dear old friend of mine

The cause of my greatest triumphs and my worst nightmares

Fear and I have always been touchy feely

From the beastly butterflies roaring in my stomach

To the gross sweat glossing my chubby brown hands

Along with the shallow breaths of oxygen that barely reached my lungs

And let’s not forget the voice he claimed inside my head

Or the weakening he caused within my legs

Fear

A captor of mine

Who needless to say I have prevailed upon every single time

Through high highs and low lows

He was always there to create hellfire from a pinch of bad luck

Taking the shape of anxiety and ghastly phobias

He was always there

Lurking in the back of my mind

Awaiting my failure

Leaving me trembling in my own skin

With a monster in my head

And doubt swelling in my chest

Yet I never gave up

I came back tenfold to whatever he put me through

Despite the tears, pain, and embarrassment he sent like lightning throughout my entire being

I conquered that dreadful 4 letter word

Like a blessed hero ascended from the heavens

Or more like a child trying to find the strength of her greatest warrior
