Dear One

Dear One,

You may ask:

Did I give you
too soon?

Was there passion
before my heart
was ribbon tied?

Maybe you thought
I’ve already
wilted

Did the cacophony of
demons tear the
reins from a rider-less horse?

Thrusting their slippery thoughts
deemed only
dream worthy

I reassure:

That one
has never felt
so right

Filling the
puzzle of the
missing jig

Masking those
worries in their
soothing balm

By chance
this one
beats true

So to give
that
unforgivable gift

Seems only
to calm my
screaming heart

The chorus
thwarts desire and
allows concise thoughts

To push through

You’ve seen
me break
and fall

But ceaselessly
pick up
my pieces

It is time
to let me
rise and fall

Run free
experience
a world

Away

Remember I am
now a
grown girl

But always,
Your Daughter
