Dear Papa

Dear Papa, You had a dream for my future At least that's what my Mother said It seemed to be my destiny It's where my initials lead For three years we cared for you As you laid paralyzed in your bed We never gave a second thought, to what we had to do Feeding, grooming, caring for you, and giving you your meds I saved up my weekly news, to share each Saturday night You eagerly awaited my exploits, and the light I had to shed These four years have gone so quickly, since you left our lives Some days it seems like yesterday, since the call that you were dead Shortly I will leave for college, something you always expected of me I'm on the path to my future, Papa, as you instilled success in my head The sciences, a pre-med path, is what I plan to take Reaching, striving, searching, always, a mind that must be fed I know you're watching from above, a belief I have so strong Matthew Donald Schmeiser…MD is how my diploma will be read With all my love and gratitude, Your Grandson Matthew Donald Schmeiser
