Dear Papi

When we were first born, my dad was terrified of us.

We were the two scariest people that he had ever met.

We brought him completely out of his comfort zone,

But my dad fell in love with us the moment he found out my mom was pregnant.

When I was 2, my dad tried to teach us times tables

But this isn’t the only math he has taught me.

He has taught me the importance of a father’s involvement

A father isn’t someone who only helps to produce the child

A father is someone who’s there for the child’s evolvement.

My dad always wanted a boy

But God gave him 5 little girls

Instead of playing sports with little Trey,

He got all A’s and 5 heads of curls

When I was little, I always said that I wanted to marry my father.

My father has taught me love my whole life.

My father has shown me the importance of my heart.

He has put a lock on it that only he has the key

And my future husband will only be given a copy.

There is no man in this world that can compare to my father.

He is a righteous man,

And he has led us through many times

He has led us through times where he felt like Job,

Losing everything material,

Yet showing the devil that this wouldn’t be his burial.

He has lead us through times where he felt like Solomon,

Replacing the world’s definition of knowledge for newfound wisdom,

My dad never let his trials steer his vision from the kingdom.

Although I only have one father here on this earth,

His love and compassion for me is a reflection of the love and compassion my father upstairs has for me

My father is the only man who will be there from my first breath to his last,

My father is my best friend, my first love, and my hero

And I will always be

Papi’s little girl.
