Dear Penny

Summertime is around again

my feet are burning like when we danced all night that summer

it was July, and the long rain had finally stopped

you were waiting at the front wearing your most precious skirt

ginger hair tied up tight

you tousled my hair for being late

Remember?

we danced till our shoes were caked with mud

your curls tickled my cheeks whenever you twirled

i was real sorry for your ruined shoes

Look at me now, Penny

you’d poke my old belly

point at my gray hair and laugh

you had to go back home pretty early

but don’t you worry

i’ll be there someday

with brand new shoes

to dance with you once more

and we’ll never have to stop

we’ll be forever young

So wait for me at the heaven’s door
