Dear Poetry

Poetry, Poetry, you drive me crazy and so knowingly,

Do I rhyme or do I free verse,

That is the question high school students ask supposedly,

When my English teachers say Shakespeare,

The classroom groans and sighs,

You are disliked and misunderstood, that is very clear,

But you have taught me to express,

Expressing myself without shame,

Or even having the courage to confess,

You make English less boring,

Taking a whole new look at writing and speaking,

Why you’re a language worth exploring.
