Dear Police Officers
Dear police officers everywhere,
My hands are raised but my spirits are not,
why did I always have to get stopped when walking down the block.
My skin is black, my suit is blue,
but why am I being persecuted when I look just as business casual as you.
You strip me of my rights, take away my freedom,
so what does it mean to you if I take this gun and launch a bullet through my cranium.
Click... Click…
Gun to my head, I close my eyes ignoring the voices of those on the side.
“Drop your weapon!”
I won’t drop it.
“Drop your weapon!”
I won’t drop it. I would rather die by my own hand, than those who started my people’s oppression.
Bang..Bang...
No other words were mentioned, the officers shot leaving my body, now lifeless.
Just like Alton Sterling, Trayvon Martin, Tamir Rice were all shot without being given a trial to prove their innocence. I was shot too, and left there like the pieces of old fruit.
So my question to you in this time of oppression, who’s going to rise and lead our people to freedom.
I don’t want to hear no more complaints about the current state of our poverty,
Unless you’re coming up with ideas that will lead us to victory.
I already bore the scars and welts of slavery, so why am I still being criminalized when I enter a white community? I’ve survived Jim Crow and second class citizenry,
but why are my brothers still able to be lynched in the 21st century? Even with a black man in the presidency, we are still over here yelling “give us, us free.”
In order to fix our broken society, we must first, educate our people and get rid of the “tough on crime” policies. Diversity affects everyone especially you and me, but until we can coexist peacefully,
we must push for interracial equality. Hear my words and listen to me closely, what are you going to do about this disparity?
Sincerly,
