Dear Society

Dear Society,

The world isn’t great, there’s loathing and hate

We can try to change it with religion and faith

With do gooders and kind souls

People who care

But there’s only so many of those out there.

Battling with people of our own kind

Feels futile

Absurd

But still we do so.

It’s just there’s so many out there, with loathing and hate

Who prey on those unable to stand up and fight

On those who cannot speak up and be themselves

For fear of punishment far greater than harsh words.

Those who mean well and pure of heart,

Are greatly outnumbered

But still valiantly try to do their part.

So maybe one day, we’ll stand up and see

A whole new world, where everyone is free.

Equality here and equality there,

For religion, race, beliefs, and thought,

For gender, sexuality, and who you are.

So persevere, and voice what is right

And one day we’ll have history we’re not inclined to rewrite.
