Dear Society...
Dear Society, why hate on me?
No matter how I wear my hair still so hard to please.
Dear Society, why can't I be great?
Shall I lighten my skin & lose some weight?
Dear Society, do you think I'll be successful?
Although poverty runs all through my blood vessels.
Dear Society, will I ever get a choice?
Because I'm black & a woman I feel I have no voice.
Dear Society, why is it knowledge you assume I lack?
I can still be educated as well as being black.
Dear Society, why must I be viewed as angry & possessive?
All I want to do is share my opinions in a message.
Dear Society, why wouldn't I love me?
I'm beautiful & as black as can be.
