Dear Stillness
Dear Stillness,
You are hard to achieve, especially now where I am constantly permeated with media and information. I find you by listening to the quiet times in life, putting down the phone and focusing on the present. A little harder than it sounds. A lot of the time, I can find you easily in laid back people, go with the flow people. People think you're a hard concept to grasp because they love to think of the next big thing in their life. You always seem to be on the run and I can never catch up.
You are especially hard for high school students to find because of all the go, go, go flooding us: sports, academics, fine arts, work. The list goes on and on. Finding a way to balance a social life and a school life and an extracurricular life is a lot sometimes. But somehow you make your way back into my life. You find me when I read for fun or watch Netflix in the tub. Taking advantage of you when you come by is a must because all you do is pop in. Sometimes you're the one who sits in the corner alone and I have to be the one to have the courage to go up and say hello. When I do, I tend to find that you bring me a lot of joy and serenity. Joy comes around when you've found your place and Serenity pops by when ultimate stillness has been achieved. A lot of things get easier over time but finding you is always difficult. Next time you're in suburbia, let's get coffee.
Please stop by soon,
Emma
