Dear Sun
Dear Sun,
Why do you shine so brightly?
Don’t you know its rude?
I want to stay in the dark yet there you are reminding me each morning that another day has past.
That I’m alive another day.
I must admit that you are quite persistent. My blackout curtains bought specifically to block you out still cannot keep you away.
Can’t you see that I don’t want to get up today that I want to stay within the cold dark room of mine.
Yet still your warm rays reach through the curtains and gently caress my cheek as though telling me that it’s a new day, to look up and have hope and each day it works.
I get up and I get ready and I live.
In the beginning I despised you for making me get up each morning to face a world that cares little at all for me, but as time went on I started to anticipate the gentle caress of your rays and the familiar feeling of hope that seems to grow more and more each day.
Now I don’t shy away from the world I face it head on knowing no matter what you would be there supporting me the next day.
Dear sun,
Why do you disappear each night?
Don’t you know you give me hope?
Eagerly awaiting your presence,
Sincerely,
Me
