Dear Teacher
Dear High School Teacher
As you spend countless hours grading my homework,
And his homework and her homework and their homework,
I am left to wonder why you do what you do.
As I spend countless hours doing my own homework,
My anatomy homework, my calculus homework, my literature homework,
I am left to wonder why I do what I do.
Dear Mr. Teacher, Dear Mrs. Teacher, Dear Teacher,
Have you ever wondered what is stopping us from just stopping?
Why do we sit and learn to get graded on how well we sit and learn?
In elementary school, middle school, and part of high school, I never knew.
You see, Teacher, that is what you do. You teach.
But you don’t teach us math and science and history and english,
You teach us there is purpose to education.
You teach us the paths to becoming an astronaut, an accountant, an architect.
You teach us the path to specialization.
I wake up,
Go to school,
Learn four different subjects,
Over two different semesters,
Day in and Day out,
For the past four years.
But now all that is about to change as I transition to a higher education.
Now I will take those lessons about Alexander the Great, how to grate, and being great,
With me throughout my life.
Everyday you say good day,
To me as I leave
your classroom dear Teacher.
But now it is my turn to say Good Day to you and thank you,
Dear Teacher.
