Dear Theif

I can't wait for the day I can see you

Now I don't mean over zoom or facetime

But to start off

I am not blind

I feel like I have been robbed

This thief he stole everything

He stole what was not his

You might be thinking

“Well that's what robbers do”

Even though I believed this was somehow different

You see he came that Friday afternoon

He was just looking around trying to find something to do

Now schools are out and we were happy, maybe because we didn't fully understand that you were stealing more than just my education

You were stealing lives of innocent people that had so much more life left to live

Like I said I am not blind but you have taken what I thought would always be mine

1. My eyes

My eyes have seen beyond these four walls yet you lock me in this cage and push my loved ones away

I guess I thought I lived in a world where my horizons were endless but if I am being honest my horizon ends right at the door because we can’t even go outside anymore

It's too dangerous they say

Not just for you but for everyone around you

Now I don’t about you but I don't want to live in a world that feels like a ticking time bomb

My life is not a game and I prefer to not play it like one

I wanna go out and see the world

But night skies and fireflies are not as beautiful through a camera lens

I haven't even gotten to see my friends

2.Feel

Six feet apart at all times

You get in the store and come right out

Don't stop and talk and don't you forget six feet apart

That is the rule

We talked about these metaphorical masks in class

How people use them to hide their feelings

But in these times it's so easy to just pull out a mask because now we don’t have to fake a smile, no ones going to see it anyway

Right?

We keep put heads down anywhere we go

But its its difference you see because no one will ask if your okay because heaven forbid we break the six feet rule to help someone in need

You know a mask use to symbolize a gang or hide who you really are

And everywhere I look I see mask after mask

Because this Thief stole out Identities

I feel my identity changes everyday as I am being locked away

This thief stole more than just who you are he stole the world we live in and the people we love

Sometimes I feel it’s better to have never felt or seen then to have done it all.

Dear Thief,

Are you happy you won?

You have taken us hostage

And some of us are done

I can’t wear a mask everyday pretending it’s all okay

Because now your not just a thief

But a murder of the human race
