Dear Those "Get Over It" Friends
Recovery
It’s waking up one morning
And suddenly
Birds are singing
The sun is shining down
Like a million pinprick kisses
Looking in the mirror
Loving every inch
A constant flow of happiness
Streaming through
Every inch of my being
And Life
Is Perfect
No.
Recovery
It’s not an easy word
And it’s nowhere near
An easy thing
It’s cutting three times
Instead of four
Puking one meal
Instead of two
Going one day
Without reliving that night
Recovery is whatever I want it to be
Because it’s MY recovery
Don’t tell me
My accomplishments mean nothing
Just because of how it looks
I am a soldier in my own battle
And unless you’re bringing reinforcements
Don’t tell me how to fire my weapon
Because in the end the blood
Is always on my hands
Don’t tell me it’s easy
Don’t tell me to get over it
You’re telling me it’s all
In my head
And yeah, that’s kind of the problem
You know, ‘Mental’ Illness
My relapse is not a failure
One step back
Is nothing
When you compare it
To how far I’ve come
And how far I’m going
