Dear Time

Dear Time,
Your job must be tough- always working without a second off. It must get tiring to keep going, to never stop. Your job must be hard- watching people pass and others change. People are always growing and elders are always dying. Your job must be painful- watching as events repeat itself but no way to stop it, no way to rewind, no way to fast forward.
Many people are angry at you. You take from us everything, but give us meaning as well. You are the most valuable thing in the universe. People often disregard you, passing their time meaninglessly, while for others you are their one wish.
Time, you are incredible. A human construct that impacts everything. You make schedules, provide routine, and give a sense of normality. We invented you, seconds, minutes, hours, and yet you are more powerful than us.
You are immortal. Never dying, never stopping, just an endless cycle of aging. Time, you must be lonely. Of all the people you have encountered, not one has stayed with you. Instead of praising you, we curse you. We hate you, but we need you.
Time, be kind to us. Keep doing your job.
Sincerely,
One Who Needs More Of You
