Dear Woman with the Iron Will

Dear Woman with the Iron Will,

From the moment of my untimely birth,

You loved me unconditionally.

You escaped the life you knew for me.

You ran towards the unknown to protect me.

All because you wanted me to have a better life.

You raised me with love, care, and compassion.

You taught me how to overcome obstacles.

You taught me how to see the beauty of love.

And I couldn't have asked for a better mentor.

You stressed to me the importance of logic and reason,

Especially in these years of my life.

But when he came along I seemed to have been slightly blinded,

But so were you.

I saw in him what you didn't, as per usual.

I saw the good, the potential for greatness.

All you saw was what you thought you knew.

All you saw was your past.

The same past from which you escaped for me,

And you thought it was coming back to you.

You panicked. I understand.

But it wasn't the right thing to do.

You said you knew what was best for me,

But you sent me tumbling into a dark abyss,

Void of love or sanction, and filled with despair.

Isn't that how you would feel,

If I ripped love away from you too?

You really hurt me this time, because

He didn't break my heart. You did.

I want you to know that I still love you.

I still admire and respect your strength,

Your selflessness, and your determination.

You are my hero in more ways than one.

I understand that you're human, and we all make mistakes.

But my forgiveness cannot be reached.

You don't understand the pain you caused.

Or how I drowned in my own tears.

But it's ok. Because underneath it all,

I know you did what you did out of love.

I can't forgive you. I'm sorry.

But you are still my mother, and I will always love you.

Love,

Your Daughter with Your Iron Will
