Dear Zachary

Dear Zachary,

Where has the time gone?

The simple, strokes of your stick.

The gentle movements of your skates.

The smooth slice of the blade on ice.

Your soft smile, shining

The gentle glances you’d send my way.

Where has the time gone?

The time when you were tangible,

When I could reach you.

Colorado is so far.

Muskegon longs for you,

My heart pines for you.

Where has the time gone?

A year in between visits,

Keep us far apart.

The longing for the season to begin,

Knowing I’ll see you soon.

January rolls around and you’re here.

Where has the time gone?

You look older, more mature.

College has done well for you

But you’re still the Zach I know.

Still the Zach I love.

I’m still your girl.

Where has the time gone?

The two days of having you close

End too quickly.

Your plane, bound westward,

Takes you far away until next year.

When you are mine again.

Where has the time gone?

It’s been four, beautiful years knowing you

The clock keeps ticking,

And we both evolve as people.

The years pass but one thing is certain.

I will always be your girl.
