Death Comes on Swift Wings
Have you ever heard?
That death comes on swift wings.
One day you can be walking down a hall
Thinking life is perfect, the way you want,
Feeling that this could never end
Until you collapse on the ground.
You become motionless.
No matter how much you try to move, nothing is working.
Soon, a crowd of people surround you
And the next thing you hear is an ambulance racing towards you.
Suddenly, you are able to rise,
But the people around you continue to weep with sadness.
Then you look down to see what has their gaze.
All you saw was the dead, lifelessly sprawled across the ground, still and motionless.
You begin to lose your sanity when the doctor announces,
‘This person is dead!’
You begin to protest, screaming and shouting at the of your lungs,
‘I am not dead! I am right here! Look at me! Please, ANYBODY!’
But nobody looks. Nobody hears.
People just turn towards their homes, broken in every way.
Now you stand alone,
And you begin to wonder…
‘Why me?’
You begin your journey ‘home.’
You ponder what you have heard.
Death comes on swift wings,
And anyone is at its mercy.
