Death Comes Swiftly

Maybe I'll learn to be careful but I think my time is running out,
I keep putting off these thoughts for later pushing them away.
Now, I hear a faint noise under my layers of blankets,
A sound so slight, it might just be my own heartbeat.
The grim reaper doesn't knock at your door,
Though he breathes at mine.
He scratches ever so quietly letting me know of his presence,
But I hide away in this bed of mine and wait for him to pass by.
He calls out my name but was I not just thinking of rain,
The soft pitter patter sound it makes trickling off my roof.
He comes when I hold life the closest to me,
Clinging to it like it's being pulled away as we speak.
Not tonight foul beast, my precious thread has not yet been fully weaved,
You've come for me before I called to you in companionship.
The bond we once knew in my youth,
You made me a bargain that you break now.
Go back to darkness and await me there,
For I will come to you.
