Death Defying

At times Leaving me alone with my thoughts Can be a death defying stunt A trapeze act with no net Believe me I am no thrill seeker Mostly Adrenaline is addictive Like a closet homosexual Shooting heroine between his toes Trying to remember how it feels To not be afraid to live in his own mind On frequent occasions Being in my mind Is being locked in a padded room Straight jacket restricting the air Short Quick Breaths Until the breathing stops In most cases a miserable thing But misery loves company You say that you understand But you really don't You could never live inside my head Five minutes in The disconnected television With the funny screen Will make you kick a hole Into my occipital bone To breathe in the fresh air That can hardly make it into my lungs In the future These will be memories And everyone will be living In forgotten shells of their former selves Aging physically But mentally still the same Distraught animals Watching their lives From an aerial view And not being able To kick the life back into their Dust ridden lungs To take out that typewriter And finally start writing about them Like you said on that first night
