Death of a Heart
When we met, so long ago
I hoped we could be more
Than kissing up on lockers and sneaking glances in the classroom.
I hoped we could be more
Than sneaking out to twelve a.m. parties, just to get high
I hoped we could be more
And we were
When we walked in a room together, heads would turn.
You, the one who could kill with a look
Me, the one who could save them with a smile
We were a team
When we spoke, nothing else was heard
When we touched, nothing else was important
When we kissed, nothing else was real
Which is why, as you drink the poison of his words
Which is why, as you taste the venom of his lips
Which is why, as you feel the thorns of his body
I hope we meet again
So I might see you, one last time
So as your heart is killed by his poisons, his venom, his thorns
Mine can learn to thrive.
