Death the Reaper

Why Does Death breathe the breath of his victims,
How does he so carelessly take such life?
What was bright he wears away its wisdom,
Leaving behind nothing but calm cold strife.

Soulless eyes steal from the unsuspecting,
The scythe he holds leaves no visible mark
On souls he carries, always collecting
He gives to them but a taste of his dark.

He strikes fear in the hearts of the living,
But to the deceased he grants restful peace;
To the breathing he is unforgiving,
Until their last laborious breathes do cease.

The slumber he bestows is a warning,
Those who fear Death, must know he is coming.
