Death of a Star

Location

Every day a star is born

And the next one dies

No surprise

Rolls of film tucked behind these eyes

Record the injustices, the shame, the sorrow

Waking up to find out your tomorrow

Was yesterday

There’s no time travelling to a better day

Your future died today

Let’s hold an open casket

So your dreams have time to float away

You no longer have a residence

But AIDS always has a place to stay

It wasn’t even your fault

You and he had the talk

He said he loved you

And you believed the verb

Instead of looking for proof in the form of another word

You were positive that he was negative

Now you’re both positive

But happiness is not an emotion you can relate to

Wondering which deity it is that you can pray to

Is it too late to save you?

Every day a star is born

And the next one dies

It’s hard to keep eyes on the prize

When the ground is your sky

But life is precious

Don't let your light dim before it has a chance to shine
