Death Trap

Love is life’s great lie It is best to avoid it as life goes by It has been known to be an inescapable trap And be as complex as reading a map For in this map lie directions to somebody’s heart But one wrong turn can quickly tear a man apart This trap is nothing more than a killer in disguise Ready to strike and leave a victim in surprise Making this wonder one I despise This feeling of affection is a landmine ready to explode Launching shrapnel into the heart and leaving agony where joy once flowed Each bit strikes with increasing pain And leaves a fire burning not even words could explain Scars are left and the wounds severe But trying to cure them only makes them reappear Those who fall into the trap have not themselves to blame Because they were easily drawn like a moth to a flame But once being betrayed life will never be the same Human selfishness makes such enchantment a mistake For it is a tunnel that at the at the end finds only ache Our egocentric ways make love only an illusion That can only invite hurt and confusion For in the heart of man lies room for only one being And rarely does this allow consideration for another’s wellbeing Our nature makes the idea of love a great deceit With consequences that are more bitter than sweet We must be cautious before falling into this deathtrap, we must retreat
