The Death of Youth

I remember when the nights were darker

And a mother’s love was so much softer

I remember when strangers posed no threat

And life was lived with no regrets

I remember when the only fear

Was a thundering sky that was no longer clear

Now we are getting older

And this world seems so much colder

As we grow we will soon realize

That the impending fear was no surprise
