A Decadent Taste

I used to love all sweets. The flavor of anything sugary carelessly spun me to a whirlwind- an unnatural feeling of energy. Taken over with a rush. I loved the sweet hint of caramel that stuck to my fingers. Tasty cravings. And the chocolates! I used to indulge in the assortment boxes stuffing my face until I couldn’t chew. I loved the moist cakes mommy baked. I savored every small crumb; the bites that felt everlasting. And the sweet aftertaste of butterscotch once it melted in my mouth. The chill peppermints stuck to my tongue. Pop rocks exploding instantly. The lemonheads distorting my face. Some sweets were not pleasing. I knew I would never ever enjoy them, like the bitterness of licorice . . . YUCK!

This poem was based off of a childhood addiction that nearly drove me to a mouth full of cavities.
