Decayed

Take a look at yourself, and what do you see? “Who is that person looking at me?” Am I black or am I white? Am I rich or am I poor? Who do I even see anymore? My history has faded along with the rest, Getting chiseled away by this world we call the best. What is there to live for today? When these bittersweet motives I see every day, Are just a harsh reality taking away, At the past we once had, covering it in grey. Where’s the love that we once knew? The real love we once felt was true. Has it vanished to dust by this modern parade? With society as its predator and our past decayed. How will we survive with this present generation? Are drugs and sex all that matters in this nation? Liking and love turned deep into lust, Lies and betrayal smothering the trust. Unplanned children, growing up to their fate, Turning what we have now into something we’ll hate. What are we fighting for? Why are we trying? What will our future become when it’s only been dying? These bombings, and enemies, opponents and more, Fight after fight; helpless bodies on the floor. Soldiers and heroes, risking lives for us all, When we’re the ones really taking the fall. One step forward and two steps back, How can we fix something when it’s already cracked? Changed and altered into something unknown, Ruining us slowly, until we’re turned to stone. What are we doing? What have we become? Lost in these addictions until our lifeline is done? Where is the hope and where is the change? Is giving up and cheating all to blame? What about the people who grew up in the “hood”? Who turned away from success when they failed to be good? Influenced by others and the environment gone bad, Making us wish to have the past we once had. Where violence was rare, and the economy was stable, Instead of taking away pain with drinks on the table. How did we change to what we are today? Why are we judged for what we do and say? History is history, and the future is we, Corruption is in motion, but we are the key. To change what we’ve become and remember our past, To heal ourselves and be free from the cast.
