Decaying Bride

Coldness prickles my feet

The winter morning is no joking matter

If you have no means to eat or a place to sleep

The twigs crackle crackle crackle

Beneath my chest, as I stay frozen and laid to rest

No hushed hymns to whisper “Goodbye”

They walk all over me, and over me and over me

Never seen. Never heard.

Walk over me, over me, over…with no reason

To hear a “Goodbye” would put me to me rest

and fill me with warmth

Like mother’s secret chicken broth

To taste a “Goodbye” at the tip of my tongue

Like silk smooth milk

Gliding down the lung

At last, no “Goodbye” my child,

Too much hidden and beguiled

I step into the carriage, one final look again

And make my way

Endless sleep envelopes me

And cradles me away

The horses with eyes of flame

Leave no mark

And go off into the abyss

A decaying bride, gone in no bliss
