December Is Near and I'm Terrified

Snow lightly coats the top of the river,

Sides of houses covered in icicles,

Christmas lights shine so bright

Headlights look too similar.

I danced in the riverbanks and couldn't help

But jump on the ice and break free into the water.

Water so cold I can feel icicles in my hair.

Stars so bright they look like Christmas lights.

But they're not stars; they're head lights.

I get struck by a car and realize I started sleep walking again.

Dragging my slippers on a frozen road,

Hoping to find you in the storm again.

It's been three years since they got away with your murder.

I broke into sobs when they were granted the gift of being free.

While you dance on the ice rinks in Heaven,

I will skate my way to your front porch,

Listen to the morning doves and drink hot cocoa with you again.

My body is now limp on the road, people screaming,

But they sound like angels singing,

Bringing me to your house in Heaven.

I clicked on this poem because the title was really interesting, but this is SO powerful. You use great imagery and language that really convey your emotions, and your pain comes through this so clearly. Great job!
