Decidophobia

“You’d definitely succeed in that field,”

they say.

But if what they say is true, why do I not feel the same way?

CONCERNED

is a nice way to describe my feelings.

“Are you sure that’s what you want to do for the REST OF YOUR LIFE?”

everyone asks.

UNDECIDED

is my middle name.

“It takes a special person to do THAT job”

they mention.

Dreams about my future workspace turn into nightmares about my future plans.

DOUBTFUL

should be written across my forehead.

“You should probably make a choice before you apply anywhere,”

mom explains repeatedly.

But how can you ask a kid like myself to make a decision like this…

I can’t even decide what I want to eat for breakfast.

“Seriously? They barely make anything. You can find a different job that pays so much more.”

If there was an award for

most popular reaction when asked about future plans

this one would be it.

What the people don’t understand is, it’s not about the

MONEY.

It’s about loving what you do.

It’s about the classroom library that overflows with color and happiness.

It’s about the bright bulletin boards covered in student art work.

It’s about the little chairs, placed under the desks that will hold my future students.

It’s about ignoring the negativity, and knowing what is right for myself.

DETERMINED

is a nice way to describe my feelings.

PREPARED

is my middle name.

TEACHER

should be written across my forehead.
