Dedication

The sound made me cringe right down to the bone, Followed by cries and a series of moans. I landed too soon while trying to flip, Pain shot through me as I felt my knee slip. I tried to stand up with all of my might, But my knee screamed so I sat through the night The next day in the cold room with the cot, My heart was racing, my hands tied in knots. The doctor told me the things I had torn, My ACL, my MCL, and more. All I could think of were the things ahead My senior year changed, my sports career dead. Even though I was sad and could not cope, Things could have been worse, so I clung to hope. After surgery I sat on the floor, Trying each day to lift my leg up more. The days went by and things had gotten rough, But I kept on, determined to be tough. I worked my hardest in order to heal, My leg gained its strength until I could kneel. I was full of will and dedication, Not to mention the pain medication. My prospects were gloomy, I could just sit, I almost lost hope, and thought I would quit. The pain was intense; I tried not to move, I felt as if I had nothing to prove. Looking back now I am glad I moved on, Life was much easier with the brace gone. I fought until my knee was fit and strong, Patience is key, even if the wait’s long.
