Deeper Than Skin

The skin on my hands are reptilian.

They tell of my troubles and mistakes.

They show how I’ve grown.

Someone once said that the best thing you can be in this world is a Beautiful Fool,

But I don’t believe that.

Beauty shows ignorance and fools don’t know a thing.

Beauty does not hold up against experience.

I’d much rather be scaled from head to toe

With all the chinks of past years telling the tales of wisdom gained

Than be flawless and hollow inside.
