Defiance.

Dear Society-

I am astounded

By your power

I am floored by the suffocating grasp

With which you hold each and every individual,

Attempting to tether them to the ground,

To fit your mold,

To deny themselves the ability to chase their dreams.

Society,

I am astounded

By how hard we all try to shake you

Without realizing

That we are you

And we cannot escape from the expectations

And the demands

That you press upon us,

yet we can defy them.

We can change them.

Society,

I am astounded

By your longevity

And ability

To control lives

That never asked for your controlling.

Society,

I am astounded

That you have decided what I can and cannot be

Society,

I am astounded

That I have listened to you

For so long.
