Defiance
You ask ‘what inspires you?’ so sure, I’ll tell you
it’s the struggling mom who vows to the sullen moon it’ll be different for them, you’ll see’
it’s the born addict who with glazed eyes look upwards towards the sky and wonders why but still they speak with slurred speech ‘it’ll be different for me, you’ll see’
it’s the college student who with buzzing confusion and fear wonders at night of their future, how long paycheck to paycheck with last but still gently proclaims ‘i’ll figure it out, it’ll be different for me, you’ll see’
you ask ‘what inspires you?’ so I’ll tell you
Defiance against the odds.
It’s not pretty words or a clever rythming scheme or even a nicely written sob story,
it’s the people who despite heavy hearts defy the odds of a careless society
