Define "Need"

What do I want? I could easily answer with one thing alone

But need? Something as necessary as blood, marrow, or bone?

I instinctually wanted to name some book, boy or cute little trinket

Which made me realize my definition of necessity was skewed and I really needed to rethink it

Whether safely at home or stranded in isolation

What are the things I live for- what is my form of salvation?

Then it hit me-what scarcity would destroy me- what lack would cause my spirit to knuckle under

I personally NEED- not simply desire but REQUIRE the experience of awe, beauty, and wonder

My heart races at the punch of red only a sunset brings

My mind is empty of worry when lighting strikes and thunder sings

My fears are forgotten when I am sweetly embraced by an ocean wave

In everyday and in every place the feelings of awe, beauty, and wonder continuously save

They save me. They feed me. They anchor me in reality, goodness and hope

In those moments where nothing seems right, or fair- memories of beauty help me cope

Because whether a moment is good or bad, it is still only a moment- passing- temporary

I need to cling to the beauty, awe, and wonder in life because I want to remember it as legendary.

Most things are totally out of my control: peoples’ emotions, the stock market, the weather

However, a mindset is a choice, something I decide to experience, a priceless treasure

I think food, shelter and water would help me “survive” on an island in reality

But walking around observing and exploring would be the reason I had my sanity

I like books, boys, and cute, little trinkets for the beauty they possess

Their uniqueness and individuality will never cease to intrigue- to impress

The world becomes much bigger when you take a breath then sit, look, and listen

Awe, beauty, and wonder: they are my necessities; my requirements; my religion.
